PMAD Workshop

Moderators: Peter J. Carian and Arnold Arst, The Aerospace Corporation

We are witnessing our Power Electronics transforming from single Spacecraft Reliability as historically defined by hand-crafted Class “A” designs and high-touch piece-parts, to Constellation / Mission Reliability now being defined by mass-produced designs, Fail-Soft, and Commercial piece-parts.

Our path forward will be discussed on ways to meet the challenges of the transformation of our Electronics design, analysis, assembly & test. There is some urgency to this effort in order to stay out ahead of the “wave” without getting sidelined or judged to be “obsolete” by the Customer Community.

NASA’s efforts in the Lunar neighborhood will also require light-weight power processing concepts.

Energy Storage Workshop

Moderator: Justin Stocker, The Aerospace Corporation

Electric vehicles are more prevalent than ever before. Increased demand and emerging manufacturers are driving the need for EV batteries to new levels. And with investment driving innovation in chemistries and technology, and nations endeavoring to strengthen their domestic supply chain, there are more opportunities to harness the EV battery market for space applications. Investments and growth in the EV market can be applied to further capabilities in space if its products can align through common materials usage, cell or battery standardization, or common safety features or certifications. We invite attendees to discuss what they are most excited to leverage from the EV market, and what will be the biggest hurdles in making transitions to space markets.
